See How Parents and Families are Connecting
To Better Care for a Loved One with Mental Illness
… and Themselves
Provide families a a trusted "go-to" community of experts, parents who "have been there", and coaching resources to rapidly and competently navigate the world of behavioral healthcare.
Provide the skills, stamina, and support to every family each day to grow their abilities and confidence as competent caregivers . . . and recover themselves from the trauma of managing mental illness in the family.
We engage every family caregiver, expunge their hopeless and distress, and transform them into informed and empowered participants in the lives of their loved ones. Every family brings their experiences, competencies, and buying power to one community in order to drive quality and innovation in the behavioral healthcare delivery system.
We live in a real-time connected world where customers shape how services are delivered to them. Their opinions and customer experiences are a valued part of shaping quality service delivery. But providers in behavioral healthcare – hospitals, rehab facilities, psychiatry, and the various therapy disciplines – do little to engage its customers about the basics of its service delivery . . ."what exactly is 'treatment'"? "How do you get my loved one better"? "What happens in the hospital, or after they leave"? "Who's in charge of everything"? How do you measure change and progress?" And their is no place to go to see which facilities and providers deliver quality services or actually measure their outcomes . . . or where families themselves can share their successes and failures accessing quality care to educate families beginning their own journeys. When a family is struggling with the distress of a loved one suffering from a trauma or mental illness, having to grope in the dark and hope the right resource was selected is a high-stakes gamble and an unnecessary stressor.
Most online resources offer information but none provides what most parent and family caregivers want – an ongoing relationship with experts to manage the day-to-day struggles of caring for a loved one with a mental illness and to help navigate the world of behavioral healthcare. Plus, families living in resource-starved areas can't access the quality support and resources they need, keeping recovery for the loved one (and relief for the family caregivers) out of reach.
We thought it was time to create that place where parents and families could share, learn, grow, and recover together. FamilyPsychConsumer is our innovative platform designed from the feedback and needs of families across the U.S.. Our goal id simple: improve each family's skills and coping each day while identifying quality behavioral healthcare that delivers sustainable outcomes to their loved ones.
We built the community on Jive, a secure, robust software platform The Jive plaform enables us to connect our community members to critical resources and knowledge and to each other, to achieve our shared mission of getting the best out of the behavioral healthcare delivery system.
Here’s a quick glance...
Our community is designed to have public and private "places" where members gather to share experiences, post everything from videos to personalized surveys, and even create their own work and discussion groups based on that place’s topic area.
For example, want to start a ‘place’ to connect, share content, and even do regional workshops with other moms parenting a 20-something daughter with depression and addiction? You can do that in our community.
Based on parent and family requests nationwide, our expert "content navigators" have creating five initial content areas:
firstbreakfamilies, a place designed for those who are unfamiliar with psychiatric illness or addiction and need a "rapid immersion" to expedite their learning and psychological relief;
‘ShrinkRap’, our interactive place for the FamilyPsychConsumer professional navigator team to conduct webinars and publish podcasts and other expert content;
Parents in Recovery, our private space for those parents who themselves are living with a mental illness and require unique support; and
Parent Boot Camp, a place to receive our competency training in relational, behavioral, and self-care skills in your day-to-day life managing the life of a loved on struggling with mental illness or addiction.
FamilyPsychConsumer is the innovation of a small group of experts who have been providing unbiased navigation in the world of mental healthcare for 20+ years. We understand the real needs of families – they are seeking more than valid information in their searches; they are seeking a coaching and support relationship with trustworthy advisors who can follow them improve their quality of life as a caregiver. When a family caregiver joins our community, they declares their goals for better skills, stamina, and support in their daily lives managing a loved one with a mental illness. Our community members then design content and connections to move them forward in their declared goals. And they measure their progress and benefit as they share, create content, and consume content in the community.
Our community platform is built around the primary motivators for personal behavioral change. When a new member joins our community, we invite them to declare their quests, or goals, to be achieved by participating in our community; examples of quests are "I want to feel and be competent at managing my son's behaviors" or "I want to maintain my own mental health while I am parenting my daughter with problems". We target and build on 5 primary motivators that help members achieve their quests:
("I control my circumstance, not feel controlled by it.")
("I become competent and improve my abilities to create change.”)
(“I make a difference in my own family/life/parenting.”)
(“I see real change happening because I measure my wins.”)
(“My life is better when I connect, share, care, learn from others.”)
